Welcome to FUSION TIDE!
Part art exhibit, part story, and part interactive quest, Fusion Tide takes you on a journey of discovery deep into the ocean and the mythical creatures that protect it, but even deeper into our own habits and consumption that impact every living thing in our oceans—and ultimately, us.
This is the story of a monstrous plastic beast named Bogo Mogo that spawned in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, and has been turning fish, jellies, and other marine life into plastified zombies. Four mythical ocean protectors, the Guardians of the Sea, are battling Bogo Mogo, but even with their supernatural powers, they’re up against a real challenge… because Bogo Mogo isn’t biological. It’s a new form of synthetic life that’s ravaging marine ecosystems. The Guardians need serious help, and that’s where you, humans, come in.
ORIGIN STORY
Fusion Tide is Aria Luna’s first solo exhibit, created over a span of several months in the first half of 2018. It’s a series of seven paintings that tell the story of the battle between the fearsome Bogo Mogo and the Guardians of the Sea. Six of the paintings are three-dimensional mixed media works, and three were created with household plastics… most of which you probably have in your home. From 2018 to 2020, Fusion Tide traveled throughout the San Francisco Bay Area from Google’s HQ in Mountain View to the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco. When the COVID pandemic hit, we had to pause the exhibits.
While the paintings rested in storage, Bogo Mogo and the Four Guardians were busy inspiring Aria Luna and her writer mama with a new, more complex storyline, which we cannot wait to share with you.
LATEST NEWS
In June 2026, we took Bogo Mogo and the Guardians back on the road, celebrating World Oceans Day on June 8 in San Francisco with Plastic Odyssey Fund and the Greenwater Foundation.
Bogo Mogo and the Guardians made such an impression that they all got invited to challenge the humans attending Plastic Odyssey’s Climate Week event aboard the Tall Ship Wavertree in New York, on September 21. It was very special because this was the first time the public got to see the new character designs Aria Luna has been working on. You can now see both the original and the new designs, on the Art page. We’ve got lots more in store from Bogo Mogo, the Guardians, and a new character we think you’ll really resonate with.
